Everything else seems to be working great, but the strangest thing happens when I try downloading a larger file (say over 20 megs), with downloading speeds >100 kb/s
everything freezes and the Lan-port completetly stops responding, I cant even click on the networkconnections in the controlpanel. This continues even after restart, and the only way to get it to function properly is by litterally unplugging it from the walloutlet until the LED on the board goes out.
What is causing this and is it a known BUG?
Is there some way to resolve this problem?
As it only happens when i download with speeds say over 80-100 kb/s could it be some sort og caching issue?

Please HELP im going NUTS!!!!

there are 2 lan ports on that board...
1) Have you tried using the other port (Marvell) ???
2) do you have the latest drivers installed for the port in use?

The marvell port works flawlessly, but correct me if im mistaken, but the marvell ones is not "covered" by the hardware firewall is it?
Yes ive tried nearly every new bios that has been released, and every chipset driver too. Even the one nvidia released, version 6.39 but none of them corrected the problem i was experiencing.
Ig someone has a succesfull mix of driver and bios please be sure to tell me so that i can try it out.

A lot of people have said to use the nVidia ethernet drivers off of the motherboard CD and do not use the ethernet drivers included in the latest nForce driver package. The other drivers in that package seem ok but not the ethernet ones. Revert to the installation CD ethernet drivers. Also, does this happen if you disable the nV Firewall? And also, have you disabled the Windows firewall if you are using XP SP 2?

I disabled windows firewall prior to installing the chipset driver and the firewall/IAM, and keep it disabled all the time.
Even though i disable th NV firewall the issue still haunts me (and im on my second ASUS a8n board)
The first board i got everything was wrong, i couldnt install the firewall, and the icons using the favorites menu showed up strange, as generic "unknown" files without the usual E signaling Explorer-links. So I sent i back and got it replaced!
The new board behaved better but still has the annoying Lan-Death while downloading. Can this be just a software fault that needs to be corrected, as the lan port functions fine as long as I dont try to download, and just surf or use messenger etc., or is it some sort of hardwarebug?
If its just a software bug i can live with it, and use the marvell port until someone figure out a way to correct it, but if its a general hardwarebug in the nforce4 chipset im not sure that i want to invest my money in some faulty hardware that will never work the way its intended...

do you have NAM installed ? (Network Access Manager).. It installs along with the nvidia firewall off of the driver cd... if so you may want to try uninstalling that.. I had a problem getting my VPN connection to connect into my office with NAM installed..

yeah tried that but it doesnt seem to solve the problem, as there is no problem connecting to different sites etc., the problem occurs when the speed of the downlaod and the size of the file exceeds >20 megs and >80-100 kb/s.
Can someone with a connection that can download with excessive speeds to what i download with try if the same probelm occurs with his/hers asus a8n board?
