Open your USER MANUAL, and look to the motherboard layout, to find the jumper that control SATA RAID. Than open your case and take a look to it, the jumper may not correctly be placed.

There is no RAID jumper on a A8N SLI Delux. Its all in the bios.

Kumala, you're having an issue thats been gone over b4 in this forum. It has not been resoved yet. I was told by ASUS tech to return my board....

Are people having problems with Seagates too? I thought it was a Maxtor problem. Try to update your BIOS to 1004. They also have a 1005-003 beta version out now too that you could try if 1004 doesn't work.

I am using a SATA seagate HD and it is working. I did have a problem with it the first time it booted up, but that was because I hadn't properly plugged it in ( I don't remember if it was a loosed data or power cable). I would check to make sure you are connected to the nvidia sata ports and not the silicon image ports look at the picture in the manual),check to make sure you plugged it in the the right port, and, of course, make sure that both the power and the data cables are plugged in. I am assuming that your problem is with the bios and not windows, correct?

I have four hard drives running of the SATA ports with no problems.

1. Make sure you have the 1002 BIOS (to start you can update later).
2. Plug in the hd to port one on the nVidia ports, not the SI like smc13 said.
3. Make sure you plug in the power cable to the hard drive as well.

Once (if) it works than you can update the BIOS and check each time to see if the drive is still being detected.

I didn't have a problem with my SATA drive which is a 74GB Raptor. I do plan to buy a 200GB or higher SATA HD later so hopefully I won't have problems with those. I had my Raptor plugged in the SATA drive connector marked as "1" and not the red SATA connectors.

did all those and still no luck, called asus and they said I need to install drivers from boot disk in order the bios to detect my sata. the thing is, my htpc does not have a floppy. I guess I have to dig for one connect it so I can install these drivers to read my hdd, which i shouldn't have to do in the first place.

I think they have this confused with RAID, you don't need drivers for SATA hard drives, XP has the drivers already and should detect the drive. Do the drives show up at all during the boot process? And you are sure you have put it in the first port of the nVidia SATA ports (the black ones)? Have RAID disabled in the BIOS?

You could try the 1003 or the 1004 BIOS revisions, and if you are running stock than I assume it is the 1002 BIOS you're using.

What do you mean it says something is wrong, do you get an error message or what?

If you get to the portion of the setup that allows you to select a partition then your drive should show up as a selection saying something like Unpartioned Space, just hit enter to have the setup automatically create the largest partition possible on the drive and select to format it (I usually do a long format the first time I get a drive).

it says there was an error when creating partition. the only time it detects the hd is when I boot with my os cd

Well now it sounds like it might be a hard drive issue, do you have the ability to get another SATA drive to test to see if it is an issue with a faulty hard drive. You could also go to the manufacturers website, they usually have a diagnostic utility that you can use to see if the drive is still good. You could even try IBM's fitness test, I think it supports all manufacturers.

ok problem again, i finally get the bios to recognize hdd, when i go to install window media center, and it goes to format hdd it takes too long and 0% has been formatted, I go to quick format and it says it could not format the hdd. My hdd sure makes a lot of noise especially a high pitch sound.

Is this the same hard drive that was having problems before? And did you restart or turn the system off while it was formatting (if so it might be a gonner)? If this is the same hard drive, though, I would just RMA this one.
