Asus A8n SLI Deluxe - Chipset driver 6.65 for XP

Have visited this and other posts and need a little clarification on installing the drivers please.

For background, since loading Bios 1013 (and not updating chipset drivers) my machine no longer shutsdown by itself. I then downloaded the latest drivers directly from nvidia, 6.66, and the problem did not get fixed. I then started searching the web and discovered from ASUS I should be using 6.65. I downloaded the zip file from asus and ended up with a .rar file. I have no idea what to do with this rar file and found this site where I thought people might be able to give me some guidance.

So..
Can you possibly confirm for me..
Asus 6.65 is an asus code of the Nvidia drivers.
That as a RAID user, I definately want to install them.
How di I install the .rar file.
Your thoughts on it solving my shutdown issues.

BTW, I noticed my IDE driver was 5.34 if that's of importance.

Many thanks

First, download Winrar @ Rarsoft to unpack the drivers. 😉

However, I also had this shutdown problem until I did a fresh install...seems to be some ACPI driver-screwup...fresh install was with official 6.66 drivers / BIOS 1013.

Thanks. When you say fresh install..do you mean a new install of XP or of the drivers.... please don't say XP 🙂.

Also, once the drivers are unpacked, what do I do with them then. The Nvidia package just self-installs.

Finally, you say you're running on 1013 with 6.66 with no problems?

Thanks all but I have now FIXED my shutdown problem WITHOUT doing a fresh install.

I simply downgraded back to the .8 BIOS.

Appreciate you may not be able to if the BIOS fixed something for you but I think I'll wait for the next BIOS release before trying again.

What is the .8 BIOS?

I was having the same problem with 1013. I did a fresh instal of XP and 6.65 drivers and now I rarely have the shutdown problem. I still get it everyonce and awhile but it's not really locked up. It just takes a full couple minutes sometimes to fully shutdown. So for those of you who have this problem are you waiting a couple minutes?
