ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe -- can you run IDE RAID?

Nocturnal

Lifer
I have this board but no IDE drives so I can't test it but looking at the ASUS website, it says:

The nForce4 chipset incorporated four Serial ATA and two parallel connectors with high performance RAID functions in RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 and JBOD.

So can I RAID IDE drives?

If I can, if I have four hooked up on each of the two controllers, can I raid all four?

yes you can run ide raid.the nf4 controller is capable of running ide or sata raid.you can run ide and sata raid at the same time.for example you can run 2 hd in raid on the ide connectors and you can run raid with 2+ hd on the sata connectors.nvidia nf4 controller is amazing.........sets up pretty easy too.i setup a sata raid setup on the a8n-e board and it was a piece of cake...first time i ever set up a raid array.one thing to note is that it does not seem much faster.in real world use i did not notice a real big change.alot of people told me this but i had to try it out and low and behold there right.i went and installed a sata2 hard drive and its fast.benchmarks are high.but to be honest i would not really set up a raid array for my use as i did not see a marked improvement in every day use.benched higher but not noticeable in everyday use.go sata2 and youll see more improvement than with the raid 0 setup.hard to believe but this is what was relayed to me and i have to agree.if your a gamer you mite see faster loading times with large files but thats about it.well if your like me you may have to see for yourself but what im saying is true.youll see.sata2 is as fast as it gets rite now.i even had a sata2 raid 0 setup with 2 wd 80 gig drives and i did not see much difference....just my experience.......
