... and it's back again. Slightly different file size from the old one, so perhaps a change.

Anyone have any word on these new realeases?

1. Maxtor issues are they fixed, diamond max 9 (not ncq) problem.
2. FSB and 1T limit?
3. Fire spitting out of the Chipset Fan?

1004. Can now turn off the chipset fan warning. Properly sets HTT multiplier - BUT defaults again to x5.

I'm getting some stability problems with OC though, e.g. some DVDs do not read properly. I'll check out whether that means PCI lock is buggered when I have some time. No idea what's in 1005.003 as Rebel's Haven don't have it, just 1005.001 which is definitely not worth it.

The fire spitting FEATURE is still there. It's necessary for the s'mores making process. Read the manual.

S0Lstice,
I finnaly broke down and called Asus. The tech said he's seen our problem b4 (dropping or not even findin Maxtor DiamondMax 9s). After I blurted out the flurry of troubleshooting steps I've taken, he said "Well, it sounds like the board has an issue, call the vendor and RMA it." He tried to offer suggestions but he seemed convinced all along that the board needs replacing.

No kidding. Well ZipZoomFly.com won't give me an expidited RMA so I have to send mine in, then wait 10 more days for them to send me one back. Bah

In the mean time, one of my freinds bought the same board and an Antec true 550 PS.
I asked him if I could borrow them for a couple days to try some things.., he agreed.

Anyway, first I unhooked my new Enermax 2.0 485 PS and hooked his Antec up to my board and the same issues occur. The very first time I booted and it only recognized 1 of the 2 SATA drives in the array. I immediately rebooted and BOTH magically appeared. I let my machine boot into windows where it locked after 5 min. I reboot and saw it dropped a drive again.

So now I know its not PS related. As numeropus forums have said the Antec true 550 works great.

Next I tried his board with my PS. (Both board are revision 1.02.) Same f ing thing happens, but in a different order. (after I set his bios up of course.)
I'm leaving his bios on the factory 1002 for now till I figure out what to try next.

Did you find that the drive dropping issue is getting worse? Its seems accelerated. b4 my machine would stay up for hours but now only minutes after I reboot it enough for it to recognize the drives.

Also, anybody know how many revisions of the board are out there?

There's only one reviwion of the board out right now with rumors of a new revision in the future. The difference in the time it takes to drop your drive is probably due to different BIOS versions. The default 1002 is the worst. From what I have read, 1004 is the best. Also, you are disabling NCQ yes?

NCQ is not available on the SATA DiamondMax 9 drive.

If I would replace my drives, what would you guys go with? (What works in a RAID 0 without dropping?)

What the Asus rep told you is such bullshit, got they refuse to be accountable.

My issue was never with the drive disappearing, it just locked up my system when its installed grrrr. I just keep waiting for it to be fixed with a bios update

Yeah what's up with this? When you click the info link for 1005-003 on the Asus site it just gives, "Latest beta BIOS."

What kinda crap is that?

See I got the following release notes when I went there.

"Fixes some stuff, screws up other stuff"

I've been running a Maxtor Diamondmax9 6Y160M0 160GB drive on the nvidia sata port for over a month now with a single glitch. It's fast and reliable.
I've used Bioses 1002, 1003, and now 1004. No problems at all.
I am using the regular molex power connector, and have the drive set to "MASTER" with the jumper.

I can only imagine that he's talking about SLI (and that's hardly a jumper, and with one card the molex connector is not needed). There are no HDD jumpers. Seems an inappropriate handle that he's chosen.... ;)

Actually, on DiamondMax 9s, there are jumpers. Other SATA might not have them but these were one of the first SATA drives made and they staill had jumpers. On Maxtor.com it states to remove all jumpers, though, for proper operation.

No, I AM talking about the HDD jumper. How long have you been building computers?
HDD jumpers have always existed, and still do. You set the HDD jumper to MASTER instead of Cable Select (default). The jumper is also used to select SLAVE as well.
Has NOTHING to do with SLI! Thorsson, you can apologize whenever you like.
As mentioned, I have mine set to MASTER, and this DiamondMax9 has worked flawlessly on my A8N-SLI Deluxe for over 1 month now with all bioses. I can't remember off the top of my head which jumper setting is for MASTER though. The default jumper setting is for Cable Select, which I never use on any HDD as it always causes problems. Switch yours to MASTER, and your problems will hopefully go away.

Here is a link to the manual with jumper settings:
http://www.maxtor.com/_files/maxtor/en_...n/manuals/diamondmax_plus_9_manual.pdf

I have a funny feeling the problems people are reporting are due to using Cable Select jumper setting.
