I was attempting to attach the external firewire port to the IEEE 1394 connector on the mobo, but nothing seems to match up. In the manual for the mobo it calls it the IE_1394_2 connector and has a setup like this:

LEFT SIDE (Rotated 90 degrees clockwise)
GND *
+12V * * +12V
TPB1- * * TPB1+
GND * * GND
TPA1- * * TPA1+
1 (This 1 is here...no idea what it means)
RIGHT SIDE

On my board however, directly underneath it says 1 IE_1394_1 and the pins are setup like this:

LEFT SIDE (Rotated 90 degrees clockwise)
1 (this is where the 1 is on board *shrug*)
* *
* *
* *
* *
*
RIGHT SIDE

And finally, for my CASE, the external firewire cable has the following little one pin connectors:

VG - Says to connect to "Power Pin"
VP - Says to connect to "Ground Pin (next to the VP connector)
TPA+ - Obvious
TPA- - Obvious
TPB+ - Obvious
TPB- - Obvious
(2) GND - Says to connect to the "other two GND ground pins"

Conclusion: Not sure where to put the VG, VP, and the two extra GND pins. Also not even sure where those pins are on my mobo since the manual doesn't match up. I am assuming it is simply rotated 180 degrees and I can swap all the labels as such, but I am not sure and I don't know where to go to check (tried searching through the ASUS site and for random firewire connector guides but I can't find anything).

Thanks for any help,
Aipon

I think I figured it out...if not I'm sure something with go nuclear when I plug it in *shrugs*

Just used an ohm meter to see that the two +12V's are connected to each other, and found the 3 ground pegs...others I just assumed would be in the same locations. Thanks anyway and yes I realize it is hard to understand without seeing it all ;p

I too noticed the pin layout in the manual is rotated from the actual pins on the board. Which case do you have? If it's a Sonata (like mine), you might want to visit the Antec web site. To add to the confusion, the pin descriptions for the Sonata 1394 port were screwed up. They have the correction posted on their site.

Good to know I'm not the only one going crazy here. I think I did get it backwards. I plugged a firewire cable in and the system shut off.

he he he..... I mean, um, that sucks! But come on, that's pretty funny. Especially if it was an iPod. I can see it now:

"doo de doo de doo! what a great day, just gonna plug in my iPod so I can transfer some music" *plugs in, pc shuts off* "Son of a .... WTF????, Apple's trying to sabatoge my pc" ........ he he he.................................So I spend a lot of time by myself, so what? :laugh:
