Asus A8N-SLI Delux and sound card problem

UPDATE:
I have tried the following but still couldnt get it to work:
1. Disabled the onboard sound unit.
2. Tried every single slot but the system wouldnt POST.

Funny thing is everything turns on (HDD, and all the fans) but nothing shows up on my monitor... Any other suggestions? 🙁

I have a PCI Creative Audigy soundcard. I inserted the soundcard into the PCI slot and tried to turn on the comp. Everything booted but it wont POST. I am just wondering if anyone has/had the same problem. I have the latest BIOS (1002)

yes, many people have had the problem. I eventually gave up and rma'ed.

Try clearing cmos
install card
format drive while card is installed.

I am just curious... is it only for sound cards or for ALL PCI cards? Sound card is the only PCI card I have so I have nothing else to test with 🙁

with the PCI card inserted... it wont even boot... are you suggestion I should disable it before inserting the card?

Try the card in the center PCI slot?
I've got an Audigy2 ZS in the middle spot. Haven't done any gaming yet but in Windows no problems so far.

It is not a problem with the PCI slot. I have a 3D Rage Pro in my PCI slot (appropriate for my A8N, eh? I know, it's just temporary till I get my PCIe 6800). It works absolutely fine with no problems whatsoever, and I can even run Quake 3 at 30 fps with this thing, more than I thought considering its 8MB of VRAM. 😉

Oh yeah xtknight, I see you got Antec NeoPower 480W too. Are you planning to run that AMD64 config in SLI? I read some of the posts other people made and they said it is recommended that you have a powersupply with a 25A+ on the +12V rail. However, I got the same PSU as you (NeoPower) but it ships with 2 rails... I am afraid that it wont run SLI fine like I want it to =\

Well, if you are open to a wild suggestion, I'd try getting the latest driver for your soundcard from creative's site and install the driver in windows without the card installed. Then shut down, unplug, and put the card in and then turn it on.

If that doesn't work, maybe the next official bios for the motherboard will address this so hold out hope, or rma.

That thread has a lot of crazy talk. A NeoPower should power the rig fine. There is a lot of misinformation floating around and people are thinking that all the power is only being drawn from 1 rail when it is not. It can be a problem, but the rails are generally set up so that doesn't happen.

As for the card problem. I have problems installing my SB Audigy 2ZS platinum. Seems to be a board issue.

What did you do with your board then? RMA? And how did the new one turn out? 😀

weird, i didnt have any problems installing my audigy 2zs platinum pro. it works just fine for me.

When I say board issue I don't mean you should RMA it. I mean they just seem to not like to play nice together a lot of times and so the way and order in which you install it could be important. I am going to play with my soundcard a bit more this week and let you know.

I couldn't boot either when I tried to use the soundcard (Audigy)... So I don't even bother trying it anymore...
To me the motherboards integrated sound chip is enough till the new sound cards are published..

I had a similar problem while setting up mine......

My ethernet ports were bad (RMA'd it). Anyhow, I could not boot with an ethernet card installed. I was able to boot with my Audigy 2 ZS installed, though the system was never able to detect any PCI card I tried.

Did you try taking out the sound card to boot up to the BIOS, disable onboard sound, put the card back in and install windows? I had my Audigy 2ZS in the middle slot since the beginning and it POST'ed fine.

So many issues with this board -_-

It's probabally not the board. Creative cards sometimes wreck havoc. Go into your bios and disable the onboard perifs that you aren't using, (the second Marvel lan, the comm ports, the Silicon Image sata ports). Then reboot without the card. Now shut down, place the card in the middle or bottom slot and see if it'll post.

Yep I tried what you said above lol. The thing is I pulled this PCI card from my old rig (the soundcard was working until the moment I pulled it out). I haven't tried putting this back into my old rig to see if its just my card's problem.

I cannot get my AC'97 card to output any sound. I tried installing the latest BIOS (1003) and then the latest driver under Windows XP Prof and still no sound comes out of the system. Any ideas?
