Asus A8N-SLI / Antec P180 case and the P/S cable "reach problem"

fisher, i read the thread before you pointed it out. opinion is not based off specs but first hand experience. i spent 6 hours yesterday trying to figure out optimal cabling and ive to the come conclusion that the seasonic should not be used with the p180 and asus board.

cabling for everything is rather short and i had to compromise how i set up my 2 5.25 drives and my audigy box. i even had to sacrifice my floppy drive because there was no way to get a 3 pin connector in its direction because of all the 4 pin fans, which i'm currently looking into replacing.

nomoon even says it barely reaches. if it was 1-2 inches longer, it would have not been an issue. but as it stands, the main power connectors may reach but will make the cables very stiff.

i take back what i said about the 5.25 drives. i gave it a shot again and i guess without the frustration from yesterday i was able to move things around the way i want them. i do have issues with the back and bottom fans requiring 4 pin molexs though because if i had intensions of doing any kind of raid i would have to replace the fans.

also, im not sure if this common among sli boards, but the premium board has a ez plug 4 pin connector required for sli which is located all the way to the left (center). basically, if you're planning on sli + any kind of raid then i highly recommend looking into another psu as you will be sacrificing an entire line of 4 pin connectors just to reach the so called "ez" plug.

Yes, this case requires you to have a very flexible 4-pin connector set-up on your psu. I used a series of Y-splitters and Extension connectors to hook everything up. It's ugly but everything is connected (including the ez-plug) and everything is running nice and stable even oc'ing to 2.7ghz.

You're welcome for the links and I'm glad you got you P180 and Asus mobo and Seasonic P/S to work together. I'm sorry that it was so much trouble and I DON'T look forward to getting started on mine. I almost wish I would have foregone the wonderful new P180 and gone with a "standardized" case design.

You're welcome for the links and I'm glad you got you P180 and Asus mobo and Seasonic P/S to work together. I'm sorry that it was so much trouble and I DON'T look forward to getting started on mine. I almost wish I would have foregone the wonderful new P180 and gone with a "standardized" case design.

FWIW - between trying to sleeve my psu cables(failed miserably) and getting everything to fit, it probably took me close to six hours. I still plan on trying to sleeve the psu cables and re-organize my cables with the extension adapters I'll order(saw that performance-pc also makes custom length 4-pin molex extension cables which will help, thanks again for the links).

However, with all the effort and time to get everything set-up, I really do love this case and think it'll be worth it.

I think I may sell my P180 and go with my original choice the Antec Performance TX1050B. It may not be cutting edge but it is conventional in arrangement, has quick release drive bays, a nice Antec P/S, great cable management system and other nice features.

I'm sure it would be much easier to build in this case than the P180 !!!
