Has anyone heard anything about the release date for the Asus A8N non-SLI NF4 motherboard? I'm anxiously waiting for this thing.. not only have I had great experiences with Asus in the past, it's also one of the only ones where the chipset is passively cooled. This is perfect for the HTPC i'm trying to build where noise is a concern.

Anyone heard anything?

why pay a premium for an SLI board not to use it as an SLI?

Better question is why would I need SLI for an HTPC that isn't going to be for games? Answer is that I don't, which is why I"m looking for non-SLI motherboards.

Just curious, why are you locked onto the A8N? There are other 939 PCI express non-sli alternatives out there. Is it just because you want an nForce 4 board?

It's the only 939 board where the chipset is passively cooled AFAIK. The reviews I've read so far on other 939 boards dont' mention anything about how loud the chipset fans are. General assumption for an HTPC is that if it has a fan, it's loud :)

Not sure what you mean by passively cooled but . . .A8N SLI has a fan on the board on the chipset. It's not overly loud by my personal estimation . . .my forced air heat pump in my house makes more noise than my PC when it comes on though. (Heat pumps suck ass btw). But the chipset fan on the A8N (at least my A8N) is usually spinning around 8000 RPM neighborhood.

[EDIT] nevermind. . ..sorry forgot we were talking about a NON SLI here.

Maybe i'm on drugs and thought that the non-SLI version came with fanless chipset.. but I'm not sure why?!

I guess the new question is, is there a non-SLI board that has passively cooled chipset?

Chaintech VNF4 Ultra. MajorPayne has one and seems quite happy with it. Now if only I could find one here in the UK, sigh...

I gotta research this motherboard then and compare it to the DFI and the MSI NF4 motherboards...

Edit: From this thread here the reviewer didn't seem to like this board. If you read the thread it seems like there are little nagging problems with this board. I'm not getting the "feel good" vibe from it...
