I have a couple of problems I need to resolve with a recent rebuild. I don't know if all are associated with the mobo, PS or what:

1. This mobo has an annoying green LED that tends to blink a lot. The manual stated that this is a warning light to let you know that the power is still connected before you start to play inside. The manual does not explain further. The problem that I have is trying to get the light to stop blinking, because when it blinks, I have no power at the switch. If I shut off the PS switch and turn it back on, it will sometimes cause a solid green light (power on). I can then boot the system. Why would I not have power at certain times? One thing I did notice is that all USB peripherals are powered on after the system is shut down. The 7-in-1 card reader, and mouse, probably the keyboard also. This also occurs in my ePox mobos also so it may be normal.

2. Another annoying problem is when I do get the system powered on, the start-up stops at the Asus splash screen. Pressing DEL (or any other key) does nothing. Shut off the power and go back to problem #1. I do get the first (and single) beep as it should, but the system stalls and locks.

3. When I do get past the splash screen, I see the normal POST screen with all components found and proceed to open XP. At some point before the XP splash screen, I have to pick which version of XP I want to open. This one I know is my fault. I started to install XP and left the room. I came back and mistakenly entered install XP (again). One copy was installed on one of the SATA drives and the other copy on the master IED drive. I reformatted the SATA drive, but I still have to answer the question. In order to get rid of this step, do I have to reinstall XP?

I really need to get the first two problems resolved. The third problem I can live with. I have read that this Asus mobo has had a lot of problems and I have seen recommendations to flash the BIOS and download newer drivers and not to install some of the Asus drivers. I visited the Asus forums and did not find much help there. None of the problems I read about seemed to be similar to mine. Any help would be appreciated!

I used a wattage calculator and came up with 375-380 watts for the system draw. The installed supply is 430 watts.

I have seen the BIOS update and have read both good and bad results from flashing the BIOS on this board. If I have to update the BIOS, I should probably update the chipset drivers first. I see that there is a 32-bit and 64-bit option for the chipset drivers. Let me show my ignorance and ask if my processor is a 64-bit processor, I should download the 64-bit drivers (which appear to be the same as the 32-bit (Ver. 6.65)) and the 64-bit reference is not for a specific version of XP? I assume that the bit reference is hardware related versus operating system related.

Having not ever flashed a BIOS, I am a little hesitant to go that rout, but I will attempt it if that is causing the problem.
