When I downloaded the bios update for my A8N-e from Asus, it downloaded as a .Zip file. Should I unzip it, then put it on the floppy? Or should i leave it as a zip file, I don't see any reference as to what to do in the manual.. I am using EZ-flash, because I want to update it to get my Valueselect to work, and before I install windows..

Thanks!

Ok!
In Bios -> Boot device priority: you must set the Floppy drive the 1st, then the HDD.
This is what you have to do!
Unzip the xxxxx.bin (1007.bin for ex)
Copy that .bin file to a blank floppy disk.
Download the awdflash utility from Asus website -> awdflash.zip
Unzip it too and copy it to the mentioned floppy disk! So you have in that floppy the awdflash.exe and the .bin bios file.
Now reboot your system and introduce the floppy before the POST.
When A:\ appears, type awdflash and press enter
Then a new window should appear, there you have to type the name of the .bin file you copied into your floppy.(Example: 1007.bin in your floppy,ok?, so you have to type 1007.bin in that window)Press enter
When the program asks you to start programming, accept it by pressing Y, and when it asks you to save the old bios file say No (N).
It will rewrite your Bios file. Wait until finish!
Done!
Remove the floppy disk

Can I do this with my A8N-SLI Deluxe from ASUS, which is now at revision 1002 according to SpeedFan? I've never flashed a BIOS before...

Problem is, my floppy refuses to access floppy disks.

why not just use ASUS Update and do it from windows?

On a side note - does anyone know what changes were made in this beta?

Of course you can do that with your Asus, it's the common way to flash the Bios. You should update your Bios to version 1006, 1007 or 1008 (That's up to you) because 1002 is very old and has issues.
Your Floppy drive cannot refuse to access floppy disks! Try this first: In Bios go to -> Boot device priority: you must set the Floppy drive as the 1st device (removable), then the HDD. If this does not work, check this out: Did you connect the Floppy disk cable correctly??

I'm pretty sure I connected it properly.

Should I always get the newest revision? Do I have to get them in order or is the newest one always backwards compatible with versions more than 1 version older than it?

How is that your floppy drive refuses to read your floppies?
Yeah, You can go for the last Bios, no problem if you need to reflash it to an older one.
Well you don't have to get always the latest revision, I am running 1006 in fact and the latest is 1008 (final I mean).Try 1006, 1007 or 1008. Problems come when you are overclocking,if you don't do overclocking then go for the 1008.

I don't overclock at the moment. I want to get better cooling before I do that.

My floppy: insert floppy disk, click on A:, no reading and "insert disk into A:" message.

Do you think there's a chance that when I flash BIOS, that my chipset fan will either slow down on its own, or make me able to do it? Cuz now it's running at 9375rpm.

Could I use the ASUS update program? Since my floppy doesn't seem to work, I mean.

I think you did not plug the Floppy drive correctly! There are 4 possible cable positions when plugging the floppy drive to the mobo, but only one is the correct one. Check it out!
Nope, your Chipset fan will not slow down on its own, will never do it until it dies.I am sorry.
Yes you can use the ASUS update program,no problem.

Yes there is only one slot, it all depends on how you connect the cable. Most floppy cables, have on one side of the cable (not the connector) a coloured line, Can you see it?Ok that coloured line incates the way the cable must be connected.
