Hello all, Have been reading these forums for some time now, but I can't find anything on my issue. I have an Asus A7V8X mobo and a athalon xp 2400 processor. I want to overclock this machine but having some troubles. I am running stabily at 2.16ghz but I know I can get more out of the chip. I just can't figure out how. when I speed up the FSB my pci bus becomes unstable and cant figure out how to slow the pci bus down seperately. Don't know if this info will help. but I am running 512mb of crucial pc2700, 2X60gb Maxtor in striped mode on an ultra ata raid controller, and a geforce 4 ti4200 grafix card. Also don't know about voltages. Temp is not a concern at this point this machine runs cooler than any I have ever had. overclocked to 2.16 from 2.0 I am still only running 89 F at an idle and 94 at 100% cpu usage. thanx for any help or input you might provide

use asus pcprobe to monitor voltages. specifally the +5, +12, +3.3

lower the mult (as i believe that mobo can do it automatically) and raise the fsb to 166 (it will default to the 1/5 pci divider, keeping pci in spec)

I wanna see if he was having the same problem as me in terms of lowering the multiplier. I have basically the same combo as him(2400+ and Deluxe) but can't unlock regardless of BIOS revision. Also, it will not lower to the 1/5PCI divider, considering that the AGP and PCI frequencys are locked (I'm 100% sure on AGP and 99.5% sure on PCI) :D No longer a problem. So I don't see how your getting PCI errors.

Regarding the Asus Probe2, that is one pretty nice utility Asus provided with the board. Be advised, the Asus board overvolts about .05v (set to 1.85v in bios, getting a steady 1.904v in monitor). Make sure all the lines are about the same as the number next to them (12v reading around 12v, 3.3v around 3.3v etc). This could be affecting your overclocking if you have low readings.

I believe the A7N8X has a PCI/AGP lock, and doesn't the pcprobe give inaccurate values?

My multipliers are unlocked all the way down to 5, however I am not having much luck with useing them. I can't seem to get any more out of it stabily. The whole 2.16 fell through . I have set now at 15x142@2.13ghz vcore=1.8,pcprobe says 1.85.
+12=11.63
+5=4.892
+3.3=3.184
That is what pc probe says anyway. I think I have a big enough power supply. It is a 430 watt Antec True Power. I am not running any thing fancy on this rig. 1cdrw,6fans, cpu fan, mobo, and 2 hdd's. I kinda think my memory might be part of the problem, but I don't really know anything for sure right now. Everytime I think I have it, either it won't reboot or windows comes up with some corrupt file B S.
Any suggestions on vcore, agp,or dramm voltages. I have adjusted the vcore a little. but wasn't for sure about the other two.
I wish someone made a step by step guide for Bios settings . LOL:D Thanx again everyone. hopefully It will all come to me soon.

Oh yeah and it is an A7V8X kt400 chipset not to be confused with the A7N8X with the Nvidia chipset
