Asus A7v8x-x bios problem

Ok, so I built this computer for a friend, everything was going great, everything was working well, then all of a sudden the thing starts just shutting off for no reason when I run some applications, it is random, shuts off when I try to connect to a server for MoH, shut off after I was checking the cpu temp in the bios, shut off when I was installing gamespy. I know the problem is in the Motherboard, it is not an overheating cpu. My problem is I tried to update the bios, I downloaded the latest file from the asus website, ran the EZ bios utility, typed in the bios name from the A drive and it kept giving me the message "Warning, Bios file does not match on board, hit key to reboot" anyone have any ideas? I know it is the right bios file for my motherboard.

never had a bad flash with my A7v8x doing it each way it worked fine. But i did have reboot after reboot with cheap memory till i used latest bios flash. then still cheapo 2700 would run only at optimal-266 now with Kingston 2700 it runs turbo-333 fine.

Maybe I am doing it wrong, I am downloading the zip file, file name is a7v8xx05.zip copying it to A drive, starting up the EZ bios program, when it says name of new bios file I type in a7v8xx05.zip it starts running and after about 10 seconds I get that error message, I really don't get it. I am using PC2700

You need to unzip the contents of the zip file and put those on the floppy drive. One of them should be named with a .bin extension, and that's the BIOS file.

The usual reason for the motherboard to suddenly power itself off is that the CPU is overheating. Is your heatsink on in the correct direction (they are asymmetrical and people often install them reversed by accident)? If in doubt, check your installation against Figures 7, 13 and 14 of this guide.

Also, what brand & model of power supply are you using?

It's not the Heatsink, it is installed properly and it runs at a cool 35 to 40C And as far as unzipping the file folder all that is in there is an awd file, and I tried that first, the file is atv8xx004.awd and it said file cannot be found

What about your power supply, what brand & model is it? Also, do a quick double-check on the voltage selector switch on the rear of the power supply unit, to ensure that it's set for 115V.

it's a cheap Rhycom that came with my case, 450W, and the voltage selector is set to 110v, could that be the problem?

yeah thats wierd, the PSU itself says 115v and 230v but the voltage selector has 110v and 220v

I am wondering if this could be a CPU problem, has anyone had this problem from a faulty CPU?
