Hey guys, could really use a hand cos i'm stumped.

Asus a7v8x (onboard audio, network etc)
Athlon XP 2.1 gig
Samsung 512 meg Pc3200
80 Gig Western Dig WD800JB
Creative Gefore 2 GTS (working on this lol)

Basic prob is my processor will only run at the lowest speed setting.. thats 1300mhz.. If i up the speed to 1733 (the core speed) the system will not start. Having said that it will start if the system is hot (ie if i have run it a 1300mhz for about 30 mins). It runs stable then for the rest of the day... but the following day (when the system is cold again).. No dice.

I have plugged a spare 1.2 Gig athlon into the board.. Ran it for an hour, then plugged the 2.1 gig back in... Same problem (thus i thought eliminating the other components cos they are all nice and warm).

So i RMA'd the processor... got the new one today... Plugged it in... Same problem.. I've swapped the ram over for a 256 meg Crucial stick, the hard drive was swapped back to the IBM Desktar (for the hell of it) nuffink,

Tried calling the tech support line of my supplier... they were hung up on me not connecting the fan correctly or applying enough thermal grease... but the system doesnt overheat... It ONLY works HOT.

Would love to hear any thoughts... Cos i'm totally baffled (this doesnt appear to be a known issue and i am running version 1.6 of the bios which is the latest)

Cheers again:frown:

Hmm did you set your mobo to 133fsb? It seems like it's set to 100fsb right now (13 x 100 = 1300, but 13 x 133 = 1729).
There should be a small jumper, or dip switch, or maybe a setting in the bios. That's a really new mobo so I am not sure how to set it but you will probably have to move the jumper from the 100mhz setting to 133mhz. Good luck.

nah buddy, it's softmenu, and like i say... it does work at full speed... just only when the CPU is hot.. The likes of Sisoft confirm that the bus is running at 133, although obviously the memory benchmarks are slow at the moment cos all the boards are using conservative memory timings until all the issues are sorted..

Cheers for the stab anyway... any more ideas?
