I just bought an Asus A7v8X motherboard. I have been having problems with stability as my computer crashes during installation of Windows 2000 Professional.
I had the bios 1006 which is the revision that the board came in, and I updated it to 1010. This made it even worse and now I'm not sure which bios to use.
Can you tell me which bios version to use for optimum stability.
Also, is it vital to re-install Windows when upgrading a system. (because I did not)

My specs:

Athlon XP 2100+
256 Crucial PC2700 DDR RAM
20GB Seagate 7200RPM ATA100
Asus 52x cdrom drive
Toshiba 48x dvd drive
SB Live 1024 Sound Card
ATI Radeon 7500
300 Watt Case

I have basically the exact setup as you, except i use the Samsung DDR 2700. I have had no problems at all. I'm using the revision of the bios that came with the board. I've installed XP Pro on my large HD and 2000 Pro on a smaller drive, without any problems or crashes at all..

yeah you should always do a fresh install of the OS when you upgrade boards... especially if the board is from a different manufacture than your previous board..

FYI: you may wanna dump that SB Live and just use the onboard audio.. In my last system i had all kinds of problems especially with games becasue of the SB Live... but its all up to you... onboard sound on the asus is pretty good anyways..
