OK I ha purchased my a7v8x-x-l mobo 2 months back for my second computer(amd 2200+ with a7v8x mobo and 256DDR hynix ram and 8.4 gB HDD seagate barracuda(from my previous P3 computer). I have riva tnt2 graphics on this system.
Well had win xp sp1 installed on the machine and it was working fine.
Yesterday i decided to upgrade the hard disk.
I went and purchased a seagate barracuda 7200.7 st380011a hDD drive(80GB) and fixed it.(I set the jumper as primary master but later on tried all settings) Well the main bios screen showed the hard disks model but as soon as i launched the seagate disk management software(ontrack diskmanager) for creating partitions and formatting the HDD this happened:
First a soon as i started to create the 4 20 GB partions , immediately i got 3 beeps and monitor flickered and blank screen appeared. I tried this a number of times with different jumper settings and different copies of disk manager software but the result was the same.
Then i used win 98 and launched the cd support and launched fdisk. Only the fdisk gave the message that the drive(HDD) was not accesible.
Then i checked all power cables and other cables. Everything is in place. Checked the BIOS AND ITS BRAND NEW
Then i took my system to the dealer. He took some time and then passed his judgement that the mobo is gone.( I donot believe in him one bit. Firstly he has himself told me that he does not know much about amd mobo's and that he has not sold many of them. Here in India amd is still a rare commodity so absolutely no technical support is available.)
Well on my persistence that mobo is allright he said that maybe the mobo does not support 80GB HDD. He got a samsung 7200RPM sp4002h 40GB HDD and installed it. Again the same problem. the initial bios screen recognized the disk but as soon as formatting and creating partion goes 3beeps and hang. as for fdisk, i again get drive not accesible error
Not losing hope i then put both these harddiskis on intel systems(intel 1.7Ghz and intel mobo) and well everything worked fine. Both the samsung and seagate disks worked . Both of them have the partitions i had created with disk manager on my amd system . Both were booting well.
I then put my old disk in ( 8.4 GB one)and BINGO it was immediately recognized. I was able to create partitions do a new format install win xp and its working fine.
Well so what is the problem? is this mobo defective? What is this special affinity of my mobo with 8.4 GB HDD.
Really its working fine with it but with all other hard disks i get this same prob.
Somebody plz help.............
Thanks in advance
