hi:

I've called 3 vendors on pricewatch and no one knows what comes in the asus a7v333 retail box. I'm mainly concerned with the Firewire Connector. Does anyone know if its included and how it connects to the header. does it go in a slot in the rear. Also unclear on the usb 2.0 connectors. are they included. Some say yes to both connectors on the RAID edition but the firewire doesn't come on the non RAID.

I'll be buying the non raid. I called asus and they dont even know. I have an asus tech looking into it and he's supposed to email me. I cant wait till newegg gets it. as we know they always include pics of exactly what you get before you buy but they dont have the mobo yet...any help would be appreciated!!thanks

hehe the problem is newegg doesnt have the board in yet, and asus's webpage says the firewire controller is "optional"

so no telling if the boards you are looking to buy have it or not

It's pretty simple - there are two versions of the board, basically RAID and non-RAID. Specs are as follows:

RAID: RAID, 6-channel sound, USB 2.0, Firewire. Extra headers included: (i) USB 1.1/2.0 + gameport; (ii) Firewire.
Non-RAID: 6-channel sound, USB 2.0. Extra headers included: (i) USB 1.1/2.0 + gameport.

Options on both include S/PDIF header and memory card reader header.

Hi:

From the responses I can see that confusion still abounds!! The tech (kevin) from ASUS still has not emailed me with the info. Seems that ASUS is as confused about this product as we are! I spoke to Jackie, from ATACOM who has the lowest price on the mobo as of yesterday. He looked into the non raid version retail box and said that there IS NO FIREWIRE CONNECTOR in the box. He will check on the raid version tonight. I have to call him 5pm PST. I will post his findings.....

Hytek, I got mine from Overclockers UK for £114 non-RAID.

Technican, that's as I said - no Firewire in the non-RAID.

Thanks NickE

BTW, how fast can your Kingmax run at CAS2.0? I am debating between Kingmax PC2700 or Corsair XMS2700

hi:

Yes NickE you are on the money. There is no firewire connector in the non raid. I spoke to Jackie from ATACOM and he opened a retail RAID version and YES THERE IS A FIREWIRE CONNECTOR in that version.

I just don't understand ASUS's strategy here. The non-raid has firewire capablity but no connector. The difference in price is approx. $25 between raid/non raid. So if you have to get the part from asus, with shipping its gotta be at least $10-$15. If you need firewire capability it doesn't make sense to buy the non raid. This is "probably" not even a part that you can buy on the internet. To me its like buying a new car and in the trunck is a jack but they dont give you the spare tire or vice versa....

I brought mine today at a BCF today for 140.......ASK specifically for the product code......However I have to point out that mine is probably a parallel import from the Far East...so.......

Product code A7V333/PA/RAID/U2/1394 -UAY..

here is what the box had...
1 riser 2x 2.0 USB and a Gameport
1 riser with Fire wire...its got two plugs....
1 Mother board with RAID
1 Quick reference Card
1 One Installation Guide
1 Manual.
1 large Mother board configuration sticker...
1 cable for the IEE 1334 Header
1 CD-ROM with software.
2 x 40pin (80wires) HDD cables
1 x 34pin HDD cable.

There is a total of 6 USB ports included on the MB...2 usb 2.0 on the Riser...2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 1.1 on the board.

The Firewire port is basically a bracket......you can put it any where...and a cable connects the bracket with the MB.....
ONE note...the box of mine said nothing about firewire......except in the product code....
