I ordered the A7V333-Raid M/B from newegg and was wondering if I will be able to use the raid controller to run one hard drive. This would leave the ide primary and secondary to run my dvd/cdrom and burner. Its been hard researching motherboards that are so new, motherboard manufactures don't give much information - mostly marketing hipe!

yup the raid controller can be either used for a raid, or it can be used as an extra ata100/133 controller (im not to familiar with the a7v333, but in most cases it is controlled by a jumper on the board itself to switch between raid or just a plain ata controller)

but its possible its controlled in the bios

In non-RAID mode, will the Promise controller work with CD-ROM drives?

most boards flat out dont support anything other then harddrives on the raid controller

some boards say they support cdrom/zip/etc but the ones ive seen have nothing but problems if they are setup that way

You can install CD-R on Raid controller, but it's not recomended
and it will decrease your system performance.
Actually they recomend ATA 66 and greater to be installed there.

That's the way I set up mine now, It works great.
