I don't know about your experiences with the K7S5A but I've had nothing but trouble. Checksum errors, Warranty Department never returns calls, changed everything to no success. If you can get yours to work all the power to you. I've never had a problem with an Asus board though.

I believe the reason ANY5546 mentioned he had trouble with the ASUS board was because this boards are refurbished (correct me if I'm wrong).

I ordered this board this morning to replace my ECS ks75a board - it's been running good for over a year but just lately, I haven't been able to fix it. Anyone know if this board with support an AMD 1ghz?

tia,

The one I bought in the $65 deal a few weeks back was just the board in a bag stuffed into a generic box. It did work fine during my testing. To the guy who wonders if it will take a 1 gig Athlon, I tested mine with a Tbird 750 o/c to 1 gig on a 133 mHz bus at stock voltage and it ran 3DMark2001 loops for days. I noticed that the program would CTD somewhere above 8,500 tests (probably about 10,000 but I was not there to see it) every time but I don't know if that is a program limitation or what.

The only thing you have to do to make the K7S5a work good is to buy decent ram and a good power supply. They are known to have problems with generic ram. They also are very power hungry boards. So long as you have a nice 350W or above PS and some good brand name ram (I have corsair i think) you should be all set! As for the warrently department, just return it to newegg silly :) they reimburse up to $10 for shipping and send you a new one. Newegg is the best computer parts company on the net!

The one I got came with NOTHING. Keep in mind it require a custom I/O plate for the back of your case. Those things are a pain in the @$$ to put in (IMHO).

Does anybody know how good the A7S333-E board is? It says it is based on the SIS745 chipset. Overclocking ability? Just wonder why I haven't seen that much about this board.

Damn, I may have to jump on this now, but there were like 4 different listings for the A7V333 when I looked a few days ago. There were 2 different prices for ones w/ RAID and 2 different prices for the ones w/out RAID. Anyone know anything about this? Is the difference USB 2.0 and NIC options or what? I looked in the descriptions and didn't see anything about those features tho....

Don't count on these newegg "refurbs" to come with anything at all. I bought a MSI KT3 Ultra ARU, and it came bare in a static bag. no manual, no headers, no nothing.

On a side note, I just got my Gigabyte Radeon 8500LE OEM CARD ONLY and it came today and it is FULL RETAIL. It isnt even an LE, its the Pro version. Came with all the cds, sealed in their packages, adapters, everything. The only reason I think it got returned is that the DVI port didnt quite fit in my case, I had to remove one of the screw mounts to get it in, maybe some non computer person got it and couldnt figure it out! Oh well, my gain :)

This just goes to show that its very much YMMV with newegg refurbs.

Bought two of these a few weeks ago, when they were $63. Completely barebones.

BACKPLATES DO NOT COME WITH THESE!

Just remember to take your chances with refurbs... if it works for a while, like a Gigabyte board i got a while back for my moms comp (slot A), then craps out, gigabyte wouldnt honor warranty on the board... said it was used, not refurbed. They claim that when they sell a refurb board back to newegg, the warranty only applies to NEWEGG, not you. Big problems... ended up sending board to newegg 2 times, once they returned it w/o fixing it, then they replaced it with another refurb. Luckily, its held out.

Asus' warranty dept. can be a b#tch to work with... I stick to Abit...... boards are better, and RMA service is amazing.

Mine came completely bare too. Trying to figure out a cheap source for the the USB2.0/1394 brackets. Haven't tested it yet but looks to be straight back from ASUS RMA to my trained eye.

Tip for you guys:

Order something that more than 60, then you will have a better chance to get everything. If it's only like 20, maybe they had been returned several times - barebone definitly.
