New system
Asus A7V266-E
AMD 1700XP+
3D Labs GVX Video
512 mg Crucial DDR Ram
WD 40 GB Hard Drive

Set the bios to 1463mhz, save and restart - hangs
Hard boots into set-up
Tried manual settings, tried boosting voltage - no luck

tried default 1100mgz - hangs on Win2k set-up / loading windows screen.

Ideas?

this is the A7V266-E right?
Did you chip the cpu? Make sure the jumpers are set properly on the board before you start. There are a few.

you could try another cpu, althought win2k has been known to screw up installing with some vid cards. And your RAM probably isn't the problem, but you could check that.

I'm having the same problem. I have an Asus A7V266-E, XP1800, Radeon 8500, 2-WD 40g drive (raid 0), belkin 10/100 nic.hp 8x DVD... that's my entire system.. It's all "retail" except for the memory. I bought memory from the computer show, i'm thinking that might have been my problem. I have 512mb crucial showing up, so i'll find out after that. I'm trying to run XP Pro. but please let me know if you have any success.

Is this an old Win2K install that you're trying to boot up under new hardware? For example: I recently replaced my MSI K7T266Pro2-RU (dead primary IDE controller) with an Asus A7V266-E, and had the same system hang. Once I reinstalled Win2K, the system now works fine and is rock stable (at default BIOS settings).

As an extra bonus, my Alpha 8045 fit the board!
