I just bought an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ system with the Asus A7V266-E mobo and i keep getting alot of errors when trying to install windows 98se. I think the cause of one of my problems is the onboard audio and i dont know how to disable it. I think i might have disabled it in bios when i disabled the onboard pci audio, but that doesnt help. When i try to install my soundblaster live card i get all sorts of vxd errors. Sometimes i get a pop up error "unable to access registry, windows will restart and repair the registry" and then when i reboot it goes back to just a fresh windows install and my video card drivers are gone. Please help.:(

I had similar problems. I reformated the drive, set defaults in the bios, diabled the on-board sound, reinstalled windows and imediatly installed the 4 in 1 drivers that came with the board. Do all of this with only the AGP card installed. Then when all is well, Install the sound card, or enable onboard sound and reboot. You should be able to get onboard sound to work. Remember the drivers for sound are on the cd in \Drivers\Audio\C-Media\win directory.

Did you try different slots for the blaster card?
I didin't have any problem with the card on the 4th pci slot.
The audio is set to auto in default, it didn't matter if it was disabled, at least for me.
