ASUS A7V266 conflict with SB Live?

I just installed a new asus a7v266 and xp 1700+ system last night. all went smooth but win xp took longer to boot up than usual. When the system booted it i had no sound. all the newest drivers are installed and all devices are present. The on board sound is disabled but still nothing. I can enable the onboard and take out SB live and sound works.

I have tried different pci slots still the same thing.

Any help would be great

Hey, i just got the same mobo and the XP 1800+ chip and i got sb live aswell. I had the exact same problem and after i disabled the onboard the sblive worked, but i did have some trouble figuring out how to disable it. Did you disable it in the I/O settings where it says peripherals?? I did that and i disabled the "Onboard PCI audio" in the chipset settings. Anyhow if that doesnt work i dont know what will, but can you please try running a game on your comp and see if it works? I cant run any games on my computer at all , they crash after about 30-60 seconds.

Did you disable all video shadowing in BIOS and disable system bios cacheable as well,also you did install the VIA 4 in 1 drivers (unless you`ve WinXP) and if it still crashes try slower memory speed settings(where it says normal,fast,turbo etc) for your ram.

If you still have problems post here again and we see what we can do to get you games running.

I actually figured out what my problem was. The VIA 4 in 1 drivers conflict with my MSI GF4 drivers. The VIA drivers have some AGP VxD driver and that was causing a problem. I tried running games with just the video card drivers installed and everything works fine.

i disabled both now. i did not know about the other setting in the bios. But i still have no sound. I think the root of my problem is my voodoo 3000 and win xp. drivers are not updated by microsoft and i am gonna install a 3rd party one tonight.
