Asus A7V133 and Athlon 1.3Ghz @ 200Mhz Fsb?

Plenty problem.
Bought 1300 Athlon and a7v133 as a good deal.
Noticed the clock multiplier was max at 12.5x, but i didn't worry, bios update or unpublished jumper settings would sort that out.
No such luck.
At default settings everything looked ok, bios says 1300 on boot screen, windows booted up as usual (not much speedier that my slot A 650 Athlon), but system froze on running Wintune 98.
Ran SiSsoft Sandra to find bus speed is at 105Mhz, memory bus 140Mhz, AGP bus at 280Mhz (70x4) and pci bus at 35Mhz.
Ran Wcpuid v.3 and found same result.
Disabled auto, and manually set as 100 x 12.5.
Same result. 105Mhz x 12.5 = 1312Mhz - all buses overclocked.
Does anyone know if this mobo is locked at 12.5 multiplier, or is there a jumper setting for 13x??
I don't think so, judging by the way the bios takes over on auto & manual settings.
Currently running at 12 x 101Mhz = 1211Mhz and everything looks normal, I got through Wintune 98 without lockup. And 3Dmark 2000.
Should I get the 1.33Ghz cpu? That only needs a 10x multi...

That multiplier and fsb combination is quite common for boards that don't officially support 1300mhz cpu's...It should have worked fine anyways as the fsb is a minor boost...

What kind of ram do you have? Are all the settings tweaked to max?

What are your temps like? What is your make of HSF and did you apply theraml paste on your own?

Many have their boards do this combination fot the 1300 (200fsb) chips, and lack these problems. Look to see if asus offers a bios upgrade to the board to give it official 1300mhz support with a 13x multiplier.

O.K
1st: Ram is el-cheapo pc133 sdram (2x128Mb modules), system seems ok with the memory, no lock-ups.
2nd:Temps are fine, I have the thermatake volcano II on the chip applied with 2 tubes of paste.
Lastly, the system seemed fine, until i ran 3DMark2000 on my Geforce 2mx 64Mb and i experienced a lock-up. I then ran Wintune 98, and same story, locked up on d3d test. Running detonator 12.41 whql drivers with dx8a.
So, only geforce wasn't happy with FSB speed.
I did get windows 98 se up and running at 1.495Mhz @1.8v, but i didn't do any benchmarking.

PS

I installed the latest bios, 1005a, no diiference.
Is the via chipset locked at this multiplier, or did asus do that?
i.e. any way to get 13x on manual jumpers?

It is an Asus update responsibility as many mobo manufacturers have implemented 13 multiplier in their boards. Some in kt133 boards most associated with 200fsb (like mine) and others in their kt133a line.

Try disbaling 4x agp in the bios...performance effect imo is mute. Many with geforce cards have had to do this to gain stability. then reinstall the 4 in 1 agp driver in normal mode not turbo mode. Normal is for non 4x agp. See if that helps...

You could also drop back a few drivers and see if problem exist.

unlock your 1300 (should be already unlocked) and run the thing at 10x 133.

NO need to overclock anything and should be completely stable.

tried 133 x 10.
no buses overclocked, but locked up after 10 minutes.
Then wouldn't enter bios. let system cool down. back to 12 x 100.
cpu wasn't happy at 133 bus. 33Mhz overclock.

there is no reason the system shouldn't run at 133mhz as that is not an overclock. Everything is running in spec for the KT133A for it was designed to run at 133mhz bus. The cpu should have no problem either. If you are getting lockups its due to sumthing else. Continue to try 10x133 as that is your best bet.

The FSB for the Athlon 1.3GHz is 104MHz, not 105MHz. It should be 12.5X multiplier and automatically selects a 104MHz FSB. If you want it to run anything different then you will have to unlock the L1 bridges, but it will still run the 104MHz FSB on the 100fsb settings and 138MHz on the 133fsb settings. Just a quirk to the way they set the 1.3GHz chip.

Not to worry, all you guys, I'm swopping the 1.3Ghz out for the 1.33Ghz,
and paying in the difference. (not much)
Should have better system speed running at the 133 bus, and nothing will be overclocked.
I must just remember to check multiplier in future.
Bottom line, the A7V133 does NOT support the 1.3Ghz Athlon at 200Mhz FSB.
Thanx for all your suggestions.
