after installation of the asus a7v, booting takes forever, and when I shut down, it gives me the "it is now safe.." msg instead of just shutting, what am I doing wrong? Duron 600, an old 8gig harddrive, 128mb Ram and it's got the 1003 bios, thanks for any help

The fact that it takes longer to boot on the A7V is because of the onboard Promise ATA100 controller. If you get the new BIOS, this can be disabled so that you boot time will be faster.

Why don't you update the BIOS and turn on OS PNP in BIOS since W2K didn't install ACPI correctly that's why you're getting that messages. Try and reinstall a second time after upgrading BIOS and see what happens.

:DTo Kemouse,

I was having the same problem, so I checked out Microsoft?s KB articles. The fix seems
to be unchecking , Disable Fast Shutdown, option . ACPI will not work properly with
this option selected. I have not had anymore shutdown problems.
