Asus A7V and Windows 2000 system having problems..

I just bought an Asus A7V motherboard and an AMD Athlon ThunderBird 850. I have 196 MB of Infineon PC133 RAM. I installed Windows2000 and all was going fine.

Now my system will intermittently lock up without warning or cause. It will not be responsive to anything but a FULL hardware reset. the three finger salute is useless.

My current thought as to the culprit is my weak power supply (240 watt). Is this behavior cahracteristic of a power supply without enough power?

Also, if anyone has any ideas on the whole SB Live! not being recognized by windows, as mine is not, those would be greatly appreciated as well!

System:
Asus A7V r 1.02 with Bios 1004a
Athlon TB 850
196 MB Infineon PC133
Diamond Viper V770Ultra
Sb Live! Value
Netgear FA310TX (ethernet)
IBM 75GXP 30GB on the ATA100
Creative 32x CD on the ATA33

Thanks in advance!

the sb live value has inherent software probs.try removing it and just install the basic drivers(none of that sound mixer crap) i had h--l with an sblive, value. also, teh netgear requires you to pull certain files from your win cd. check their website for which ones. it's been so long since i've done it i can't remember which files they are. i'm running 3 of the same cards your using and i was getting the random lockups until i used sys info tab under the acc dropdown to pull the files. ever since, everythings fine. hope it helps, jer22

I don't use Win2K, only because it wouldn't install on my new system, but I do have a lot of problems with the sytem freezing. Most of the time the monitor just goes black or garbled. Other times, it just locks up with only the power button working. I thought at first that it was the VGA card, ATI Xpert2000, but could it be the SB Live Value that I have installed? I don't always have anything to do with the sound card running though. Also, it doesn't happen on a regular basis. Could there be another culprit?

I had major problems with my SBLive MP3+; that's why I'm running a Yamaha-based sound card right now. However, others got them to work okay, so it seems to depend on the specific situation. Do a search in the forums and I think you'll find a few relevant threads...

I would say try to borrow a better PS and see. Coz' sometimes it's the PS problem, but I have seen cases exactly the same as yours where the CPUs were actually defective.

for the sb live issue, try to install the most recent 4-in-1 driver. or try to move it to another pci slot and see.

Well, as far as my problem I went ahead and bought myself a 300w Antec Athlon-Approved Power supply, hope that's the problem. Otherwise I may have to break down and try a different motherboard. Thing is, this was the only KT133 MOBO that would line up correctly with the AGP slot on my case, it's a weird case, guess I should look for a new one of those too, too bad no one makes a nice black case that's decently small (or too bad the SX1030B and FongKai 320B are too big, those are some SWEET cases!)

Well, Thanks to all for the ideas!

(I ripped the SB Live! from the system and it hasnt randomlylocked up yet.... Look's like it might have been the culrprit, but I havent been running too long, and I'm not home right now to check it.
