When I start up my computer, fast trak looks for the ide drives but can't find them. I have a master western digital hard drive on the primary ide cable, a master lite on dvd drive on the secondary ide cable, and a slave sony dru500a dvd writer on the secondary ide cable. Anyway, when I start up the computer it says fasttrak couldn't find any ide drives so I go into bios. In bios everything looked fine, it had all the ide drives and all. So I tried changing the bios settings to default, and after restarting a few times it will finally work. But it seems like the next day when I start up my computer again, it will happen all over again. It seemed to start when I first put in the dru500a drive. It's annoying to have to go through the bios every day, just so it will work. Would updating the bios work? Other than that, I have no idea as to what I should do to fix this.

try taking out the dvdwriter?
do you have the raid version? (fast trak makes me think this....im not sure if its part of an onboard ide controller or a raid controller...if you have raid disable that via jumper i think)

I do have the raid version and I'm pretty sure raid is disabled. It worked fine before I put the dru500a drive in, so i don't think it has anything to do with raid... when I first had this problem, it happened even when the dru500a drive wasn't connected. I'm going to try updating the bios, since i never did that.

Well I wanted to look around a bit before I updated the bios, so I found that it has something to do with the promise raid controller. I disabled raid, but is there anything else that would need to be disabled?

Well I think i've fixed it by just putting the dvd drive on one of the promise ide channels... but everytime i boot up, it still scans the ide drives, then instead of failing, it asks me if i want to go into the fastbuild utility or continue booting. When I go into the fastbuild utility, it doesn't let me do anything since i put my dvd drive on the promise ide channel. I enabled raid... since it's a dvd drive though (and not a hard drive), should i disable raid?
