ASUS A7N8XE-Deluxe and serial ATA question

I just got the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe board and a Maxtor serial ATA hard drive.

I was reading through the manual, and all it talks about is how it has a RAID controller for the serial ATA ports, and setting up a RAID0 and RAID1 array with two drives. Just because it uses a RAID controller doesn't mean I HAVE TO use two drives, right? I can still just plug up my single serial ATA drive and use it just fine with this board, can't I? I don't care to use RAID, and definitely don't want to buy a second serial ATA drive after I've spend a few hundred bucks already upgrading my computer.

I'm pretty sure I can just use one drive fine, but just want to make sure.

I have my os on the sata drives, and now I just installed 2 additional IDE drives. The system will not boot, I guess its looking for the os in the IDE drives.
how can I force it to boot from my sata?
