Hi!

I have installed many computers in my life, but this one I just can't figure out. I just can't get the onboard LAN to work on this motherboard. Clean install of XP, installed all the updates and the latest nForce2 drivers downloaded from nVidia. I have tried exchanging the mobo without any progress.

The network indicates a 100mbit connection, but I'm not able to reach anything. It got IP from the DHCP server and everything. When putting in and external NIC, it works immediately.

I really don't like the sollution to put in an external NIC addon, since it definitely should work with the built in "nVidia MCP Networking Controller".

Please help!

Thanx,
/Frank

Yes, LAN is enabled in BIOS. Otherwise it wouldn't even show up in the device manager. As I said, everything looks normal within windows. It's shows 100mbit connection and everything, but it just doesn't communicate :(

it may be that your unique MAC ID is wrong. There is normally a sticker on the board itself, sometimes on the PS2 or paralllel ports that has the unique ID code on it. then in the bios under the integrated periphereals there should be a MAC address input option where you can manually enter the unique ID. If you can't find the info or bios option then ask how to input the MAC address
at the nForcersHQ Asus forum and someone will have the info you need, HTH :)

I had a similar problem with my 8RDA+ when I flashed the BIOS. The lan showed up in Device Manager, but wouldn't work.

The problem was the MAC address.

The solution was simple.

In a command prompt, type ipconfig /all. Check the listing for the Nvidia Lan. Look for Physical Address and write down what you see.

Reboot into BIOS and go to the lan options. There should be an option to enter a MAC address. On mine I only need to enter the first 3 HEX numbers. Once that is done, exit and save the settings and reboot into windows. The lan should work now.
