Asus A7N8X or MSI KT400?

Going for a t bred 2400 and Kingston 333mhz DDRAM, which board should I go with? I have heard of EIDE problems with the Asus but also some stability issues with the MSI.

Any suggestions?

I would also like to know if it is possible to lower the multiplier (so I can get FSB up to 166 and run sync with the memory) without unlocking the CPU.

Also, is there any difference between the A7N8X and the A7N8X Deluxe other than the sound??
Thx

Why the MSI sounds like you are looking more for a Epox 8K9A2+, It will unlock your processor and from working on them seems to out clock the Nforce2 boards stock, The Nforce will clock a little higher after all the mods and you can always look at the KT400A's, Should be some nice boards,

Ok, I'll do some research on the Epox 8K9A2+.
That allows change of multiplier with a T Bred without moding?

I don't want to OC much, maybe 12.5(or 13) x 166 instead of 15 x 133.

Still the 8RDA+ over 8K9A2+? What are the advantages of 8RDA+ over the 8K9A2+?

Uses superior chipset - nforce2. Awesome onboard sound. Integrated components use less of the cpu. Dual memory controllers work in conjunction to increasing memory bandwidth. Flat out better.;) Only $99 at mwave.com.

The 8K9A2+ will unlock your processor, Both computers will run at 13X 166 without any problem, The 8K9A2+ will run at 190 without any problems, You might or might not have to do some mods to get the Nforce at 190 and over, As for me I don't care about the onboard sound as I use a Audigy2 sound card, I could go on but either board will make a good system, I have both

Also better support for future Socket A processors.

Not really the Nforce2 has a problem with the 333 bus processors right now, Their are a lot of people waiting for a bios upgrade to try and fix the problem with the 333's right now and I am one of them

Which nforce2 motherboards? Which revision? I know for sure that folks are getting exceptionally high FSBs with Epox 8RDA+ and Abit NF7-S Rev 1.2. Abit has already said that Abit NF7-S Rev 1.2 can do at least 400MHz DDR FSB in practice. Your sources please.

nVidia's word :
?We?re absolutely delighted to the response of NVIDIA nForce2 in the marketplace,? continued Henry. ?Features and performance are the two key ingredients that form the foundation for the industry?s best PC platform, and with our DualDDR memory architecture and support for up to a 400MHz frontside bus, NVIDIA nForce2 is, and will continue to be, the world?s best platform for AMD Athlon XP processors.?

I have the A7N8X Deluxe. My opinion is that the driver support from nvidia seems to be superior. I just had to install one driver for everything.

The deluxe vs. vanilla A7N8X:

Onboard sound (which you already know)
Firewire ports
Serial ATA

If you don't need any of those things, it's probably better just to get the vanilla one. You can always get add-on cards later if you have to.

All the Nforce2 boards are having problems with the 333's and running at high FSB
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From another forum-

CPU_FSB Jumper hack for 333fsb CPU's (2600+, 2700+, 2800+, and BARTONS)

Problem: Corruption, instability, failure to run over 193-195fsb. Inability of 333 fsb cpu's to match running fsb's of 266fsb CPU's.

Test: Memtest86 v3.0. ( www.memtest86.com ). Memory tests show errors or Memtest freezes during test 5 or so.

Solution:
- Shut down.
- Clear the cmos
- Move the CPU_FSB jumper from the 266/333 position to the 200 (From pins 1,2 to pins 2,3)
- Start up, go into bios, RESET DEFAULTS, do your changes and so on and so on

Interesting. Could you provide a direct link to that post or the forum name?

Yeah, I was aware of the problems associated with 333MHz DDR FSB Athlon XPs doing 400MHz+ DDR FSB. But, I think it's a bit premature to assume that those problems will carry over to the future Socket A 400MHz+ DDR FSB processors. I think that motherboard revision makes a difference too, adding to the confusion. For example, Abit NF7-S revision 1.2 has no problems doing 400MHz DDR FSB with 333MHz DDR FSB processors while the previous versions do.

Well if I was a hardcore overclocker I would have a 266 and not the 333 in my A7N8X Deluxe, It runs ok at 166 FSB so I will run it their, I have so many computers around here I don't have the time to try and push it anyway, I have heard a few people say don't worry about corrupting windows with the Nforce2 cause of the locked PCI, AGP with high FSB, Well you can I just reformatted, Mine dies out at 174 FSB
