Asus A7n8x memory config question

Looking for some confirmation on this. I have an a7n8x-e deluxe motherboard with 2x 256 pc3200 corsair xms memory. I want to add memory. Can i add a 512 meg chip (gonna use the same brand/model) and keep the 2 256 meg chips and still utilize dual channel? the board has 3 slots (2 slots for channel A, 1 for channel B)
 
Yes you can, it will run dual-channel with three modules in any slot combination. 🙂 Welcome to the Forums.
 
As Mech says, yes.

However, it my understanding that the optimum way to configure this is the two 256MB sticks in Dimm slots 1 & 2, and the 512MB in slot 3.

That way the two 256MB work together to go DC with the 512MB stick. (256 x 2) 512 and the 512 (single stick).

I would be interested in Mech's comments on this and whether he has benched various configurations.
