ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe System boot problems

Just put together a system with the A7N8X-E, WD 80G IDE, 512M PC2700 Kingston HyperX, Asus FX5200 in an Antec 630BII case with 350W PS.

When trying to boot for the first time, I get no beeps and the computer never even displays a POST screen. After pulling and re-inserting all components and connections (ribbon and molex), checking all jumpers are set to default positions and clearing CMOS, I can get it to boot with one beep which should be normal. Each step of the POST process is painfully slow and when it finally gets to the "boot from CD" and begins the system check and WXP install, it says that there was no hard drive recognized and install will not continue. It did however recognize the HD at the POST (albeit very sluggishly).

Any insight is greatly appreciated,
Leonard

Hi Leonard and Welcome to the Forums!

This sounds like what happens when a WD HD is on an IDE channel by itself and has the jumper for "master". All the WD I know must have NO jumper on it in this case. If there's no other drive on there. Make sure to remove the jumper.
