1 & 3 or 2 & 3

notice how one slot is farther away, that is the second bank.

If you stick it inthe first two, you won't utilize it.

I'm doing almost the same thing. The Asus board has the Memory slots color-coded right? 2 Blue slots and 1 Black I think??

How do you know which one is 1, 2, 3?

Do you have the manual? Or the box contents? The A7N8X deluxe (for me) came with a sticker to stick on the inside of your case. That has all the basics, including which ones are 1, 2, and 3 IIRC

it really doesn't matter....

if you can't read on the board that says "1,2,3" ;)

then just stick the two chips on the very ends leaving the middle one blank....regardless you know you hit 1 and 3 due to the process of eliminatino

I
ve been studying this board and have finally ordered one for myself. I found a review here http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/asus/a7n8x/a7n8xp1.htm

which states:

"3 DDR Slots supporting DDR200/266/333/400 modules. If you want to take advantage the Dual Channel DDR, just ensure that have one DDR in the black slot and the other in the blue. Two ATA133 IDE connectors are on board for supporting ata/133 devices."

This review was quite helpful for me since I AM a noob. Hope it is helpfull for you as well.
