Asus A7N8X and DDR400 will not boot

Hrm since 1001E works try uping it one bios at a time after that one and see which one gives you issues first, if thats the only one that works at the correct speed I'd suggest you just stick w/ that one. Thats a real odd issue you've got there. You may want to try updating to the latest one using afudos and the following format AFUDOS /ifilename.rom /pbnc /n swithes w/ an ES verson of Afudos or an older version that supports those switches that should refresh the boot block and reset the cmos. After doing that pull the power and the cmos battery from the board and let it sit for awhile (maybe overnight) then see what happens, if that doesn't work try reseating the CPU while on one of the newer bioses and see what happens. (the ES versions of Afudos can be found in this thread over at Xtremesystems Here)

Thanks for all your advice Arcanedeath.

For my motherboard (pcb 1.04) the flash procedure is not named ez-flash. It is called awardbios flash. This method employs the Alt+F2 keys and the awdflash utility.

I hate to give up as I?ve spent hours and hours (actually nearly 3 week now) trying to get this ocz ram to post. To be honest I have read on the net that the Nvidia nforce2 chipset does not like high performance ram in my pcb 1.04

I think I will revert to bios 1001E and good auld Cruical PC3200 ram.

Asus should be ashamed??A7N8X??fsb 166??duel channel DDR400????..don?t make me laugh.

Cheers

Ps??..still wish I could get the later bios to read my XP2600 though

bah I forgot it uses award and not AMI bios sorry about that its been too long since I've updated the bios on one of these must have been thinking of the Asus board I had before this one a CUSL2 I think. that was AMI and used afudos.

Success at last

After much web searching and a lot of help and advice I was pointed in the direction of trats at the following forum.

http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=352324

His modified version of 1009 bios flashed fine and recognised my XP2600 on boot and showing 2088Mhz in cpuz

I still cannot get the ocz ram to work, so its back to good auld Crucial.

Thanks to all who replied to this thread.

Cheers
