The Asus board was cheap so I bought it from Newegg to build a 2nd system. The installation went fine and I had no problems whatsoever but I cannot get sound at all in Win2k. It is enabled in the bios and device manager tells me that there are no conflicts. I have tried Win98se as well with the same results, I have also tried driver versions 1.6, 1.7, and the latest from NVIDIA. Everything else works fine, very frustrating. Any ideas? Rest of the hardware:

Antec case with 250watt smart power ps.
256 meg Crucial ddr2100
Seagate 40gig 7200rpm hd
XP1800+ cpu with SVC GC68 cooler
Lire-On LTD163 dvd drive

I have one of these boards and here is my system config:

Athlon 1200
256 MB Crucial PC2100
A7N266-VM
Hauppage WinTV Theater
30.0 GB Maxtor (going up to a 60.0 GB tomorrow or Tuesday)
48x cdrom
4x4x16x phillips burner
floppy

I am using the coaxial digital output for my speakers. How are you hooking your speakers up? The nForce tray options has speaker and audio output configurations that Windows doesn't know how to configure. I used the latest driver set from the Asus website and just double-clicked the .exe setup file. Worked great. Turn on the digital output and my 5.1 speakers have never sounded better.

Um, ok, I'll ask the stupid, make you feel like a total moron question... Are you sure you hooked up the speakers correctly?

Beyond that, see if the system is registering sound output, if it says that data is being sent to the speakers then you might have a problem with the jacks.

There are no stupid questions for a problem as basic as this. I am outputting the sound to my Altec Lansing AC44 speakers which are just 2 speakers and sub. My speakers are hooked up to the green jack or the one closest to the monitor input. I am not using the digital output obviously so I have configured the panel to output for analog, though I have tried almost all settings at one time or another. Again my device manager is telling me that the audio drivers are working fine with no conflicts. I've done many system builds without event and my instinct is telling me that something is defective but I wanted to run it by all the forum folks first.

Make sure it's not set to Mute in the nVidia audio panel too.

Yeah, check the mute thing and see if it shows a signal being sent to the speakers. I believe it tests this before the jacks so if it shows a signal then you might have bad jacks and will have to RMA the board. If it doesn't show a signal, then I'm a little at a loss, something else might be messed up that I just cant think of right now.
