Asus A7N266-VM Video Memory ?

Hey everyone,

First time poster here ..... I'm very new to the whole "all-in-one" motherboard setups as all my previous systems have included pretty much all the bells and whistles. However, I need to build a few budget systems for some of my friends and I came upon this board which seems to be quite good judging from other people's experiences.

I did some reseach and I was unable to find how much video memory the onboard GF2 MX chip comes with ? (i.e. does it share memory with the main memory ? And if so can we modify the amount of memory that gets allocated to the video chipset ?) These budget systems are primarily going to be used in environments where gaming is usually not an issue but the occassional game of Links 2003 or Unreal Tournament could be possible. (I suppose these motherboards could handle games like these correct ?)

It shares the Main system memory.

It is pretty good for a on-board video set, BUT don't expect Radeon 8500,9700 power or even a GF4 card.

If you want to play the newwest games then get a nForce2 board and a REAL video card. But if on a budget then this is a good board that does offer a AGP port for later upgrade.

For the record, you can set the onboard video to be entitled to 8Mb, 16Mb or 32Mb of the system memory in the BIOS menu. You can get a feel for its performance by looking over Anand's test results here. Those results are with a 1.2GHz Athlon, and as you can see, the onboard video is giving roughly half the performance of a Radeon 7500.

UT is probably not out of the question as long as you keep the resolution and texture details down. Of course, it depends on what a person expects out of it... I've played UT2003 Demo on a feeble TNT2 Vanta 8Mb and the nForce onboard video would certainly outperform that.
