I just purchased an A7n266 motherboard to build a budget pc for a friend. Will this thing run with PC2700 and an AMD XP+ 2.4 GHZ? I am not really concerned about the processor speed but I am kind of concerned about the memory speed. Any suggestions/Hints or otherwise would be appreciated

Thanks

Yes.

That motherboard is designed to operate at a 133MHz CPU bus speed and 133Mz memory speed, both of which are double clocked (Double Data Rate), which comes to 266MHz DDR. That CPU is designed to operate at 133. The memory has a newer way of specifing the speed, but it is rated to do up to 166 MHz.

PC2100 = 133
PC2700 = 166
PC3200 = 200

Basically the newer way takes into acount the DDR and the number of bytes transfered (the memory is 64 bits wide, or 8 bytes) so they are multiplied by 2x8 =16, and rounded. 133 x 16 = 2128, etc.

The memory can operate faster than it needs to for that motherboard, which is great.

Looking it up, the CPU is designed to operate at 1.93GHz which is 133 x 14.5.

If you mean the 2400+ then it runs 15x133.3approx.=2ghz and the 2700 should run at 2100 speed no problemo.
