Asus A7N266-C w 1001.E Locking Up

I have the A7N266-C w/ AthlonXP 2100+ running WinXP Pro. I have applied all the PRE-SP1 updates via windows update, Applied the latest nForce driverset 1.05, and 28.32 Detonators for my Quadro2 Pro card. I have 2 matched sticks of PC2100 DDR in banks 1 and 2 to leverage TwinBank. I have a Compaq NC3123 NIC, SBLive 5.1 x-gamer, and a Creative DRX3 decoder card present all in an Antec SX830 case. The machine intermittently freezes when issuing a restart or shutdown??? I sent an email to Asus support but have not heard back yet on what the cause could be. I saw a post elsewhere where others have said that the 1001.C was the only stable bios release, but that release does not properly recognize my CPU.... Any replies are appreciated.

Thanks!

I had problems using win 2000 and updating to the nForce 1.05 drivers...my system would randomly lock up, so I went back to using the 2.13 nforce drivers off of the Asus website and the lockups disappeared.

I've read elsewhere that this is actually a problem with Windows XP and USB devices. Other people without the A7N266-C have the same problem with Windows XP. I do have a A7N266-C, and I occassionally get the lockup's on restarts and shutdowns, but I was hoping Service Pack 1 for Windows XP would resolve it.

By the way, have you ever done a performance comparison between having only one memory slot filled compared to both. The A7N266-C is supposed to benefit from having both filled, but I'm wondering how much of a performance difference there is since I only have one slot filled.

Thanks,
Mark

I have the A7N266-C with WinXP and haven't experienced any lock-ups. I've heard from others with the problem fixing it by setting "USB Legacy Keyboard Support" in BIOS to PRIMARY. The newer beta BIOS sets it to this value by default.

Mem scores in SiSoft Sandra increased for me by about 30 MB/s after adding second stick, so there is a slight increase, but nothing amazing...

I applied the latest 1002.003 beta bios and my issue seems to be gone.. reboots or restarts are hassle free so far so good.

Thanks for the replies!
