Hey everyone!

I'm having a little problem I hope I can get some help with. I'm putting together an A7N-266VM for a friend. It has XP Pro installed, using the onboard video and I have added a TB Santa Cruz card (TBSC). I've disabled the onboard audio and the audio from the TBSC works fine. I've also disabled the onboard game and midi port, choosing to use the one on the TBSC. The problem is that XP refuses to recognize it has the resources available to use the game port on the TBSC. When I check device manager I see the ! mark beside the game port. The resource tab for this device indicates that enough available resources cannot be found to use this device. It's trying to use the I/O range 200-207. This is the same resource range the onboard game port uses. When I enable the onboard port it works fine. It's almost like even though I disable that resource for the built in port on the mobo, XP still thinks it is in use. When the onboard port is disable it is not listed as a device, so it's like it is only halfway disabling it, but still using the resource. I've checked the resources by type in device manager and from that list is does not look like anything is using the I/0 range 200-207. I've flashed the mobo with the latest BIOS and downloaded the newest drivers for the TBSC. Sure, he could always just use the built in game port....like I said it works fine, but this issue is frustrating!! Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom

Well, I guess this is a known problem on nForce2 boards, but I guess it impacts nForce boards as well I finally found something at Turtle Beach's web page regarding a game port problem. For those interested, here is the information:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Nvidia nForce2 chip cannot access the I/O addresses for the Santa Cruz
Joystick port.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
This issue was addressed and resolved in the 4184 BETA drivers or higher.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you motherboard has a built in game port then here is a work around. This
example was on an Epox motherboard.

1. Disable Santa Cruz Game Port in the Device Manager.

2. Enable BOTH onboard Game Port and Midi Port in Epox BIOS:
Default values are:
Game Port 201, Midi Port 330, Midi Port IRQ 10 (5works as well)
- this was specific to the Epox motherboard your motherboard may differ

3. Now connect your Game Pad to the onboard game port and use it instead
of the (disabled) sound card game port.
