(Sorry, but I posted this message under the tech support forums, but recieved no responses. I need to recruit the big brains of my fellow Anand Tech-nicians!)

Hi.

I'm no hardware expert, but I just put together a system:

Athlon 1.4 Ghz
Asus A7M266
512MB DDR
Enermax 430W
IBM 60GXP 20GB & 40GB
Promise Ultra ATA/100 PCI
MSI Geforce2 Pro
Windows ME (just for now)
etc.

The mobo, PS and CPU were all installed professionally. Here's my problem:
The thing constantly blue screens, locks up and otherwize crashes on me. I know my software very well. All chipset and other drivers are installed and updated. I've reinstalled windows, flashed the BIOS, and even reformatted, but the problem persists.

I have a feeling the problem is some sort of BIOS, mobo or Windows configuration problem, since the crashes occurr while doing ANYTHING. If anyone out there is familiar with this mobo/OS combo and can suggest a BIOS setting (I've left them at default) or congfig or driver that might help me, I would appereciate it very much.

Thank you.

i updated my bios to the current one and updated the via 4-in- southbridge chipset... and it worked like a champ then

you need to get bios version 1004.a.. this is the most current one from asus

Good Luck
