I am running an AMD t-bird 1.4 ghz (266 fsb) with the Asus A7M266 board. I have still have the original bios revision which is 1.04. I was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to the newest revision which is v1.07. Will I notice a performance increase in games and when running programs? Thanks

Being a total fan of your MB (ok, so I own and use it too!) I would suggest the following: If you do not plan on updating to an XP processor any time soon, stay where you are. No need to upgrade the BIOS. However, if you plan to install an AMD XP processor in the near future, then you will need to update the BIOS. V.1.07 would be fine and is generally accepted as the version you would need. Keep in mind one caveat; your reported CPU temps will increase. Not a big deal but expect to see about an 8-10 C increase. Long story that I can relate via PM's or by link. Other than that, you do not need, and will not see any performance increases by going from v1.04 to 1.07, using a standard T-Bird CPU. No need to upgrade.

Hey, since you own the same board as me, what settings have worked the best for you in the bios? I am basically looking for as much performance for games and every day desktop computing that I can get. Let me know how you have your bios set up. thanks

I'll do you even one better. First, I'll point you to one of the better sites for BIOS settings that you will find. This site gives you all the "basic" knowledge that you will need to do a decent job of tuning your BIOS. Is it the "Final-Definative-Answer" to the A7M266?? Probably not. IN fact there may be some info that needs some updating. But I can guarantee that you will definately learn a few things from it though. However, since this is your lucky day, I am going to provide you with yet another source that is very specifically and ONLY for the A7M266. This one will take a bit of reading on your part but it is well worth the time. This thread has some 28 pages of the most comprehensive diagnostics and setup info that I have ever seen on a MB. Yeah, I suppose I (or someone else really) could summarize it a bit, but we've all had to do the reading and it has been well worth the task. Sit back, relax and go for it. The first part you have to remember is a bit "dated". But, it gets even better very quickly. The author is very knowledgable and if you PM or email him, I'm sure he can help you even more.
Good luck and if you have even more specific answers that I can help with, I will be sure to do so.

PS> One thing I neglected to mention is that if you check my sig, you will find I am NOT running an XP processsor; "only" a 1.33 @ 1.45. Terrible state of affairs?!?! J/K. ;)
