Hello,

I'm trying to assemble a pc for myself. It doesn't have to be fast (im gonna put obsd on it and use it as server) so i decided to take the AMD duron 800Mhz. Now i came across 2 interesting motherboards but i can't decide which one i should take.

As it sais in the title it's 2 ASUS motherboards. As i see it the A7M is made specially for an AMD processor but can only handle DDR ram. The A7A isn't specially made for an AMD processor but can run it and can handle DDR ram and some other ram. Now i can't choose anymore what would be the best board for me to buy

If anybody could help me that would be great

i own the a7a , its a very stable and fast board. i also hear very good things about the a7m . basicly it comes down to this if you want to use cheap ram now and update later then get the a7a , if you want to go all out now get the a7m . The only thing is that these boards are really for the athlon at 133mhz bus , with the duron unless you plan on overclocking it to the 133mhz bus. You can go with a 100mhz bus board like the a7v and save some money

The A7M266 is faster than the A7A266. This has been shown by many reviews. But it is true: the A7M266 can only handle DDR RAM.

Why don't you wait maybe 2 more weeks, than the AV7266 is out. This board can handle both sorts of memory
(like the A7A266) but is supposed faster than both the A7M266 and the A7A266. It's based on the VIA KT266 chisept, and this is the fasted and most advanced DDR chipset.

Of course there are already severeal KT266 boards around with and w/o RAID. But if you want to wait for Asus
(the certainly come with the top performer), give it 2 or 3 weeks more.
