I have an A7A266 board and can't get it to start up. The following is my configuration.
Motherboard Asus A7A266
CPU Athlon 1.2 GHz, 266 MHz, retail boxed
System Memory Corsair 256 MB DDR SDRAM
Graphics Card ASUS V7100 PURE GeFORCE2 MX 32MB SDR VGA
Hard Disk IBM 30.0GB 07N4774 EIDE ULTRA ATA/100 LP DESKSTAR 7200RPM 75GXP
Floppy SONY 1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE
CD/DVD SONY 52X INTERNAL EIDE CD ROM #CDR5121
2nd CD/DVD Plextor 40X-READ/16X-RECORD/10X-REWRITE IDE INT
NIC 3COM 10BT/100BTX FAST ETHERLINK XL 3C905CTXM PCI W/PC & NETWORK MANAGEMENT 1-PK (Bare card)
Sound Card Phillips, PSC70217, 3D PCI Sound Card

Right now I have only the 3-1/2" drive, CD-ROM, hard drive, and video card hooked up. When I switch the power on for the power supply the light on the motherboard comes on. But I can't get the system to switch on. The CPU fan doesn't come on or anything. I am new at this but I believe I connected the start switch to the right lead. But it sure seems like I didn't.

I have the jumpers disabled, so the mobo should identify the cpu and necessary voltage.

Anybody have this board? Can you tell me where you connected your start switch. Maybe I didn't read the manual right. Any help is appreciated.

I haven't got the A7A but I will try to help. Your power switch is in the LED panel connections block in the bottom right hand corner of mobo (south of CPU). Look at page 41 in your manual.
Things you should do:
Make sure you have AMD approved power supply.
Check to see if memory, cpu, and VGA are in correctly.
Make sure the CPU Fan is in the right header (page 37).
Disconnect everything except for keyboard, monitor, so you should have is cpu + fan, memory, VGA, PSU, monitor, keyboard, and Power SW all connected.
Still not work, then try a different VGA Card.
Still not work, then remove motherboard from case, stick on a desk with protection underneath and install CPU and memory again, BECARFUL, treat it like a woman (respect).
If it still does not work, and you are sure the power switch is plugged in correctly, then I think you have a faulty board.
Good luck

Make sure that you have the switch headers connected correctly. Be careful if you follow the pin definitions silk-screened onto the board, as the bottom row is printed first and then the top row is printed below that (note the arrow).

Just be very careful, and you should be OK.

If you have 2 DDR DIMMs, make sure that you change the position of the unmarked jumper located at the end of the AGP Pro slot.

Ditto what Andyhui said... I have an AsusA7V and A7A266 and I think I plugged the power switch connector on the wrong row even knowing it was confusing looking at the board markings. Lets see the bottom markings (on the board)represent the top row of pins...now thats neat. If you have a new case/power supply make sure its set for "115" on the back.
