I was installing a second drive on this older PIII/1 ghz machine, and planning on running a copy of Linux on it. And now this...

I can't see any physical damage, but the thing won't even start. No fans, no drives, no nothing. Switch on back of case is ON, and I checked leads from the front power switch to MB. Everything's intact.

Asus A7 Pro onboard LED is ON, glowing steady - is this any indication?

How do I isolate this problem? Is it the MB, or the CPU?

I might be able to salvage the RAM (512 /PC100) or the CPU, if I know what to look for.

I know it's a few years old, but I hate to toss it.

Thanks!

If the HDDs don't spin up, it's most likely a damaged power supply. Most certainly if the PSU fan doesn't spin up. First guess: adding the extra HDD pulled too much power and caused the PSU to fail.
