Asus 7100 with A7V creates SeCReT symbiotic relationship

I've been wanting to set up an AMD system with a
VIA KT133 mobo and GeForce2 MX.
The candidates for the mobo are:
Microstar KT7 Pro or Asus A7V:
The candidates for the Geforce2MX are:
Asus 7100 and Hercules.

I asked a guy who builds systems if there was some advantage to marrying an Asus mobo with an Asus video card.
He said it was a good idea. I asked him why, and he said that Asus usually strays from chip producers specifications in order to produce cards and mobos that are above average in quality. Therefore they would be ideal partners to take full advantages of each others features. He claimed that these advantages were trade secrets, and thereby didn't know exactly what they were.

Is there anything to this? There must be some merit to matching same-name parts. Any advice?

While it does make sense that a company would tailor their products to take full advantage of each of the others features.

I don't think the guy makes more money from one or the other but who knows.

i think that's true. because every intel processor really takes advantage of the resources foun on an intel chipset mobo. that's what i have read on some magazines though🙁)

there may be something to it, i have a A7V and v6800 geforce DDR and can run 4x AGP with no trouble at all while you read all the time of others having trouble getting geforce video cards to run in 4x mode on KT-133 chipsets. but who knows 🙂

Hmmmmmm...

It was a pain to get my Asus V7100T to work with my A7V. It worked perfectly with a Voodoo3, but the MX card was a no-go. I wanted to get rid of the motherboard, then Via saved the day with a new AGP driver! At least it works well now 😉

I know of two people who have a lot of problems with their Asus GTS2 cards under win2k also on a A7V. I'm sure Asus test all their cards on their motherboards, but it doesnt necessarily mean it will work in your system! 😉

Anyways, all the videocards nearly use the same reference design from Nvidia so the difference between videocards are minimal!
