Asus 6800GT 128MB???

To my knowledge the ASUS V9999 card is an overclocked 6800, not a GT. Yes the 6800GT uses GDDR3, but the 6800GT don't use heatsinks on the ram. I believe the memory runs alot cooler so there wasn't a need to put cooling on them.

Asus makes a 6800nu with GT RAM, and a core clock of 350. They also make a GT equipped with 128MB of DDR1 RAM at 700Mhz. Its trash.

That is one that is a full GT GPU (16 pipes).

At the price it actually fits in pretty well with the rest of the market. You can't get anything better at or below the same price, which makes it a decent value in my mind.
No, it's not a full GT with higher memory speeds and 256MB, but memory speed means less with DX9 shaders than it ever did, and the need for 256MB is still somewhat questionable.

I mean, what else is at that price point?
If you put $300 - 350 into the newegg engine you come up with a bunch of CAD cards, an x800SE and the (Out of Stock, maybe forever) eVGA 6800 Limited Edition that everyone was raving about, which actually has pretty similar specs but is 256MB instead of 128.

It's certainly a WAY better value than an x800SE.

Sure it's no real 6800 GT, but it's not priced like one either.
I certainly wouldn't call it trash.

The ASUS 6800GT-128 is a very nice card actually. I know a lot of people who are happy with them, with performance between a 6800 and a 6800GT (with a price more comparable to the 6800 vanilla). It has 128MB DDR1 700MHz instead of the real GT's 256MB DDR3 1000MHz, but that only really limits performance at the very highest settings. Over here, it's a much more viable option than the 6800GT:

6800 - AU$475
6800GT-128 - AU$525
6800GT - AU$680

everywhere i see this card its about $330-$340 so ill probably go with this card but in all the pics i see there are no heat sinks over the memory. shouldnt something like this come with heatsinks over the memory??? i know i could just buy some but then i'd have to wait a whole other hour to play while i go to fry's

Nope, its trash. 😛

Please explain why, as I fail to see why it is.

It's not as good as a GT (700 MHz/128MB memory), but better than a normal 6800 (16 pipes at 25MHz higher = 1700 megapixels per second more than a 6800). Not surprisingly, it's priced in-between the two.

Trash is something like the x800SE, that is slower than cards that cost over $50 less, not cards that fit into their price segment.

So if you had a price limit of $350 what new card would you buy?

I actually made the mistake of buying the V9999GT. It is trash. Besides Asus' proprietary monitoring software (Smart Doctor) detecting random voltage spikes, the card was disappointing. I can't RMA it because I threw away the box *sighs* so I have to sell it and then buy a real GT. Any suggestions on which brand 6800GT I should invest in? Hopefully something I'll be able to OC to an Ultra if I decide to?

BFG won't deceive you on the box, and they have a lifetime guarantee.

Buying a BFG is a little like buying a Curtis Mathis TV... it may cost a little more, but they're darn well worth it (whatever happened to Curtis Mathis TVs anyways?).

Anyways, BFG 6800GT OC (overclocked by manufacturer!).
