Asus 6800 and Athlon 700/K7M issues

I just dont get it. I feel I have a pretty decent stable machine but at the same time my games are intermittently choppy. Ive had much better luck with a Viper 770(factory Driver)

Id like to see if anyone has some advice. Heres what ive done so far.

Ive tried factory and detonater 3 W9x-618 drivers. I downloaded and installed VIA 4-1 pack. I adjusted some jumper on my K7M(I read somewhere its default was too high for Geforce cards) Ive flashed my bios. Someone told me to disable Fastwrites but I couldnt find anywhere to even enable/disable that setting. Even downloaded AGP port drivers from Asus..

Heres my problems

TRIBES- Choppy in air at times. Seems smooth but overall play is bad especially at sharp turns and air shots.. Alot ot times I get error and it lowers my resolution to 800X600.. If I click close like 5 times the error goes away and lets me in the game. Constant freeze ups that either crash me to desktop or make me reboot

EVERQUEST- Seems great until I turn too sharp.. Overall not bad and better than tribes. Still I freeze up almost 3 times in a 4 hour period. Same as tribes in the way I freeze up. Usually results in having to reboot.

DIABLO- Garbled inital screen. Cant even enter game since I had the Geforce.

UNREAL- Same as EQ

You might say heat? Well my covers off and I have 2 fans. I have a utility that runs to warn me if the card is too hot. Its never been a heat problem as far as im concerned.


Please anyone help. This is the first good website ive seen in a long time. Id also love any links to other good gaming/hardware support forums/sites.. this seems to be a great one.

Any advice would be great..

If it's the Asus utility, disable it. Uninstall the monitoring software for your mobo and you should be all set. I have a K7M/Athlon 550 Herc DDR and had the same problems you are decribing in a couple of the games until I got rid of the monitoring untilities(I have no idea why, but it worked).

Thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled and still have the same problems.. Any other suggestions anyone?
