Ok I got my 5850 today and when I plugged it in I noticed the default clocks were 850/1200 instead of the normal 725/1000. Think someone may have flashed a 5870 bios on it and returned it?

the box usually has tape-like seals over the tabs where you open the box. also, was the anti-stat bag sealed?

There was no tape over the tabs and I don't see any residue where tape may have been. The anti static bag was not sealed just folded over and closed with tape.

Wow sure hope not. If so I am glad I stopped ordering from Newegg. Same thing happen to some people maybe with Intel G2 SSDs before.

I've been ordering from Newegg for years now and never had anything like this happen to me.

The untaped box and antistatic bag sound normal to me. Are you sure you don't have a version that comes at 850?

Well, according to your bios, you have an ASUS brand 5870 bios on a physical 5850. You can tell the hardware is a 5850, because there are 1440 Shaders gpu-z and no VDDCI Sensors (a 5850 has only 1 vt1165mf controlling VDDC).

What brand 5850 did you buy from the egg? And how does it run? :p

Yeah I knew it was a 5850 because of the shaders. It is an Asus card and I am still trying to get stuff together to bench it. I had it up to 900 on the core earlier and ran furmark for 6 min to see how the heat was and it was hitting 71c with the fan at 80%.

hmm, from what I heard there can be problems flashing a 5850 to a 5870 bios. I would just return it. Dont want to take a chance on it failing you down the road.

and if it breaks whilst flashed to 5870, there goes your warranty. for all intents and purposes, then you flashed it to 5870.

Yeah thats what I was worried about. I am going to call newegg on Monday. Still I am not happy that they sold me something that wasn't new.

I would be too. Having to go through all the trouble of sending it back and then having them send another one can sometimes be a pain. They should make it right my point is this should never happen to begin with.

Anti-static bags aren't taped shut, it would have the original sticker sealing the bag too if new, or just folded, but not taped.

Newegg is going to replace the card and they agreed to overnight the new one once they get the old one back. Still I will be looking at everything I get now from them a little more closely.
