asus 1000he booting issues need some help

hi guys,

i'm trying to help my friend get his netbook back up and running.

right now the issue is that i can see the bios post but after the bios posts, it goes into a blank screen.

if i press f8 after bootup, i can get options to boot in to windows safe mode, but if i select safe mode it seems to not show anything.

when i go into the bios, i can see that the hard drive is there... does anyone think this is a bad hard drive?
