really, there wasn't any one else to play the filed than one of their highest paid players?

My post from the *ahem* official b-ball thread:

What a game! Now in the 15th. Ryan Howard gets thrown out of perhaps his FIRST game ever over the second of TWO semi-BS check swing calls on appeal by the asshole third base line ump!

NO position players left for the Phils, so Roy Oswalt is in left field and the first hit ball goes to him for an out, lolololol!

Second and third outs made by Raul Ibanez, who's emergency playing first base for the first time since the year of our lord 2005!

Baseball! You gotta' love this game!

Did I mention that the only reason they're still playing is that Jimmy Rollins hit a 2 out home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie it up? :awe:

Bottom of the 15th now. Of course, poetic justice, NOW the Phillies will win.

That ump was BUSH league, George BUSH league, Sally league!

It's midnight on a weeknight and most of the sellout Phillies crowd is still there, feeding pricey stadium beer to their kids to keep 'em calm. :D

Now 2 out in the bottom of the 15th a Rauuuuuul sent one deep to the warning track but out.

GO PHILS! :awe:

No, Leroy, there isn't. You probably think you made some sort of trenchant point. You didn't.

David Herndon in his second inning pitching for the Phils. The only reason Herndon is in the majors is that, since he didn't even make the Angels 40 man roster and so was nabbed by the Phils for 50,000 in the Rule 5 draft and, raw not ready for prime-time sub rookie that he may be, HAS to stay on the Phillies 25 man roster all season or be lost back to the Angels for nothing.

NOTHING, I tell you, nothing! :awe:

Dropped by the guy playing first for the first time since Bush was just one year into his second term.

Life. It's just not FAIR. :( :D :awe:

Phils down to their last out. Polanco on first on a walk, but they're down two runs. Utley up and, of course, they're going to walk him intentionally because the next guy up is Roy Oswalt, a pitcher, batting in the tossed Ryan Howard's place.

Did I mention Oswalt was an Astro his entire life until a month ago?

Phils have already used every position player, every reliever, and TWO of their five starters.

Down to the last strike now.

damn that was a long game

pretty fantastic that roy o had to play left and bat against the team he spent 10 years with

SF played the last out of this game on their big screen due to the wild card implications (and also the craziness i'm sure)

astros now have some crazy record for games that end on wednesday

Many years ago the Astros and Mets played a whopper. IIRC 24 innings.

btw I was ready, willing and semi-able. But I never got the call to go in.

Isn't Howard coming off an injury (not that it's an excuse)?

Yes he was just activated from the DL last week with a sprained ankle. He really needs to freaking step it up, Utley/JRoll/Victorino/Polanco had 8 walks + 8 hits combined and Howard didn't bat them in. 17 Left on Base, simply unacceptable especially from Howard and the big boy money he's making.

Not that a sprained ankle is nothing, but he obviously had time to heal on the DL. 7 chances and leaving 17 on base is rediculous
