just saw a news report about the [possible 10th] planet and they were interviewing a caltech professor, dr. brown. every other sentence ended with "...we haven't seen it yet, but it makes for very exciting times ahead." so basically, astronomers look at a bunch of nothing all day?? not trying to bash astronomy, but.... somebody defend the field... or keep bashing.

edit: you're right, not a planet yet.

Shouldn't that be 'all night' ;)

And yes I know they don't sit and look through the 'scopes anymore.

not really. enlighten me.

Without going too deep, a big part of astronomy is detecting unseen objects by the gravitational effects they have on surrounding objects.
